This multistage cache can take you on a leisurely scenic Boland Winelands meander of about 50km from start to finish.
Way back we intended it to double as a rally to see who could do it in the quickest time, but there was only one taker. When it was placed there were no other caches along the route.
Nowadays we suggest you do it at your leisure and perhaps not even in one day.
Your goal is to get to the cache at the following coordinates: S 33deg.B4.4BA and E 01Adeg.0A.C86 by collecting clues along the way at some of our favourite coffee stops.
CLUE 1: S33deg 49.587 E018deg 47.734 is your starting point. These are the coordinates given with the header of this cache site. This site is just off the N1 on the R304 to Stellenbosch. How many plant pots are in this pond ?
CLUE 2: S33deg 54.626 E018deg 56.588. Get here by driving toward Stellenbosch for 5,5 km. At the intersection, turn left. Continue past a well known wine farm to the R44 where you turn right. Travel for approx. 6,8 km and turn left at traffic lights onto R310. The turnoff to CLUE 2 is at S33deg 54.715 E018deg 56.532.How many full length pillars do you see ? It's berry easy!
CLUE 3: S33deg 54.425 E019deg 06.975.From clue 2 continue on R310 to T-junction and turn right.How many gables are there on the platform side of this building designed by Sir Herbert Baker?
This quaint little place has changed its identity a few times over the last years. It was initially a coffee shop and at some time also an information centre. Still you can quench your thirst here.
CLUE 1: Add 8 to equal "A".
CLUE 2: +3 = "B"
CLUE 3: +1 = "C"
Head towards final cache. Park at 728 metre elevation. Note elevation! There is ample parking space. From here the cache is about 300m. and a gradual 40m. climb away.
