“THE REAL FORKS OF THE
WABASH"

The Forks of the Wabash has been a
crossroads and stopping place for over 10,000 years. Native
Americans have camped here for thousands of years. The Miami indians
came to this spot in the late 1600's and it has been a gathering
spot and treaty grounds ever since. The Forks of the Wabash (Where
the Little Wabash River flows into the Wabash River), is located at
the southern end of the"Long Portage" which was one of the three
principal portages between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi
watershed.
You will need a canoe or kayak to get to the
cache site, which is exactly at the tip of the forks. If you need
to cross the Little River, there is a rock ford at 16 624020 and
4526032 that was only knee deep at the time the cache was placed.
Once you get to the tip of the Forks, you can sit on the root of a
dead tree and dangle one foot in the Wabash and one foot in the
Little River. The cache site is protected by stinging nettles and
poison Ivy. The stinging from the nettles can be soothed by the
clear cool water of the rivers, and at any case the agony lasts at
most a half hour. Have fun!!
The cache container is
a black plastic peanut butter jar.
UPDATE: AUGUST 2005
--TRICKWORM HAS REPLACED THE CACHE WITH ANOTHER PEANUT BUTTER JAR
IN A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT LOCATION, SECURED WITH FISHING LINE SO
HOPEFULLY IT WON'T FLOAT AWAY DURING FLOOD STAGE. NEW COORDINANTS
POSTED AT TOP OF PAGE.
