Davenport is the county seat of Lincoln County and was incorporated in 1890.
Did you know that Lincoln County is the WORLD'S second largest producer of
wheat? (I wonder what the first is?) I bet all those geo-farming
cacher's know all about this. This is my favorite stopping point en route
to the hinterland off Highway 2. While here, you can grab some goodies at
the Pioneer Bakery next door, gas up across the street, and use the restroom at
the park. The local historical society has a terrific little museum just
down the street, so if you visit during the warmer months, check it out.
OK, onto the cache...
You will only need one item to figure out this cache - a 10' tape measure
(OK, maybe a few brain cells too.) If you forgot to bring a
measuring tape, you might find one behind the large sign on the west end of this
city park. While facing the large brick sign, look behind the beige
plastic fence post on the left.
Here's what you need to do. Measure the size of the objects, or the
distance between the objects and round off to the nearest foot or inch.
The final coordinates are in this format: 47 AB.CDE, 118 0F.GHI
...and for the "distance ones", always measure from the CENTER of the object.
The following may look difficult, but it really isn't. Enjoy!
A = the distance between Jungle Java and Mr. "A" (feet) ______
B = the length of any single brick on the walkway (inches) ______
C = the diameter of the sundial platform (feet) _____
D = the length of any one of the many benches out here (feet) ______
E = the distance between Jim Hein's place and Shamrock Paving (feet)
_____
F = the distance from Country Touch Floral to Davenport Building Supply
(feet) ______
G = the length of the gal/guy sign on the bathroom doors - top to bottom
(inches) _____
H = the distance between Odessa Union Warehouse to the Old Pioneer Bakery
(feet) _____
I = the distance between the Lincoln Co. Historical Society to the Safeway
Store (feet) _____
Good luck and I hope you enjoy your visit to Davenport. PLEASE do not
include any info as to final location (photos, hints, etc.) or I may delete it.
If anyone asks what you are doing in the park, just tell them you have a new
hobby which is measuring things. Or maybe you could tell them you are
thinking of building a similar park in your backyard - be Creative! Please
post your "encounter log" if this happens.
