Abandoned Traditional Cache

THIS CACHE HAS BEEN RELOCATED. THE DIFFICULTY IS UP A NOTCH FROM THE ORIGINAL CACHE AS WELL. PLEASE NOTE THE NEW COORDINATES. THE CACHE WAS MUGGLED ONCE. PLEASE HIDE IT WELL.
Just north of Newport on Highway 20 is an old abandoned viewpoint that provides terrific vistas of the Pend Oreille River and its surrounding mountains. This little spot is located between mile posts 434 and 435. There is plenty of parking space in front of the "white rocks."
I have no idea why the highway department decided to let this viewpoint go. Maybe there was just too much maintenance. The cache is contained in a white Rubbermade container. Cross the deck and take the stone stairway down to the trail. You can follow the trail and get pretty close to the cache or head cross country. You will need to decide for yourself. Be prepared for an impressive view of the Pend Oreille River.
THE TERRAIN DROPS OFF EXTREMELY QUICKLY AT THE VIEW POINT THAT IS JUST OFF THE TRAIL. BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN ALONG.
