This cache is located in the “Heritage Quarries Recreation Area” in Lemont. Between 1850 and 1900 dolomite limestone was mined from these quarries which eventually filled with spring water, creating several fresh water lakes. There are miles of newly completed crushed gravel trails with several bridges spanning the I & M Canal.
The access road to parking is located along Main Street at: N41º40.598 W087º59.495. Follow the access road to the main parking area, or drive over the canal and turn right to access the additional designated parking areas North of the canal. The furthest lot east being located at N41º41.235 W87º57.999. If your biking it, the main lot is a good place to start.
If you’re on bikes, it’s just around the bend. If you’re walking, it’s around the next corner. Close to the path, so use stealth! You are looking for an ammo box with the usual loot. Enjoy your tour of this interesting area and don’t forget the bug spray.
