Geocache Description:

Dictionary Game Cache on the old Erie Canal path. Bring an obscure word and fake definitions. Fabulous Prizes! Cache contains a stamp for your log book. Park at 43.05.999N 077.32.520W

On a bike accessable trail that runs on the original Erie Canal bed, between the new canal and Pittsford plaza, this 2-gallon plastic jug covered in duct tape contains codswallop and kickshaw for your punctilious perusal. Pernicious poppycock, you protest? Each cacher, cachette or cache cadre MUST sign into the log with one weird word along with several fake definitions. Some obscure terms and their meanings are provided on slips of paper for those who leave home without first consulting a dictionary, but you will need to provide the fake definitions. The answers are then written (by you) in the back of the log. If you feel your word and definitions are of sufficient wit to merit public display, feel free to share them in your website log entry, but leave out the answer. Don't take the stamps or the ink pad - they stay with the cache. To get started, here are the first three entries of the cache: 1. Codswallop: A. A disgusting drink. B. To strike someone unexpectedly. C. Nonsense. D. Fish feces (poop). 2. Kickshaw: A. A Chinese handcart. B. Delicate morsels of food. C. The pointy little objects used in the game of jacks. D. A scarf used over the legs while riding in a carriage. 3. Kahuna: A. Hawaiian witch doctor. B. Hawaiian racing kayak. C. Hawaiian limousine. D. Inuit term for “fruit basket.” Get the idea? Go for it! Consult a dictionary prior to starting - its more fun to come prepared.

HISTORY:
This segment of the original Erie Canal from the Spring House to the current canal was called "Clinton's Ditch" after the then-govenor of New York. It operated from 1822 to 1919. About 500 feet south of French Rd. is the site of the WWII Odenbach Shipyards. Landing craft and other vessels were built here in a spur of the canal, then towed to New York City for outfitting and oversees deployment. That's why there's all the concrete on the path.
