I eldre tider brukte folk å samlast i dette området for å danse. Ein spelemann på hardingfele og ein åtte, ti dansepar, av og til endå fleire. Den gamle danseplassen låg på posisjonen N 60 38.844 E 8 37.662. Det er slutt på dansen no, men framleis står Hovda i kulturens teneste som formidlar av TV-signal til denne delen av Ål kommune. Det er god utsikt herifrå. Mot sørvest mot tettstaden Sundre vestover mot Gullhagen-området, mot nord ligg Liagardane og mot nordaust svingar dalen seg mot Torpo. Området langs riksvegen mot nord er Satakroken. Dette området har frå gamalt vore eit kulturområde med mange gode spelemenn og rosemålarar på begge sider av elva. Spelemennene Ole Jensen Myre (Myreguten), Olav Sataslåtten, Sevat Sataøen, Ola Dekko og Jens A. Myro var alle frå dette området. Det var og rosemålarane Herbrand Sata, Nils Bæra og Embrik Bæra. Myreguten, som og var tambur, brukte av og til å gå ut på Hovda og slå på tamburtromma si om sundagen. Han budde på ein plass inne i skogen sør for Hovda. Midt i Satakroken ligg forsamlingshuset Liatun. Her hadde mellom anna Hellbillies øvingslokalet sitt i mange år.
Some time ago, this area was a venue for dancing. A fiddle player and eight to ten couples, somtimes more. The old dancing venue was situated here: N 60 38.844 E 8 37.662. The dancing on this place has come to an end, but still Hovda is a cultural signifficant spot, as the TV-antenna spreads the TV-signals to this part of the Ål county. The view is magnificent! Towards southwest, you can see the center Sundre, towards west the Gullhagen area. In the north Liagardane and towards northeast you see Hallingdal and Torpo. The area along Route7 in the north is Satakroken. This has for a long time been a very important cultural spot in the county.A lot of famous fiddle players and rose-painters have lived here on both sides of the river.The fiddlers Ole Jensen Myre (Myreguten), Olav Sataslåtten, Sevat Sataøen, Ola Dekko and Jens A. Myro were all from this area. So also the rose-painters Herbrand Sata, Nils Bæra and Embrik Bæra. Myreguten, who was a military drummer also used to come here on sundays and play his drum. He lived on a small farm south of Hovda. In the center of Satakroken you find the dancing venue Liatun. Here the coutryrock band Hellbillies practised for many years.
