Geocache Description:

"This bold escarpment (is) remarkable for the way in which it throws its sandstone cliffs up from the otherwise unbroken plains." - Alexander Sutherland, 1888.

Djurite rises abruptly from a sea of wheat paddocks, providing a refuge for a wide variety of flora and fauna, including many rare and isolated species. Until the 1840s, an Aboriginal group known as the Duanborap clan were based here. They were known by a variety of other names, including the Djurite Balug, or Djurite people, after their name for the mount. These days you'll find members of a different tribe inhabiting the area...

First Waypoint

If you go to the coordinates listed above, you'll find yourself at the start of the Alfred Wright Lockwood Memorial Drive. As you travel along this drive, you would have previously found a haiku inscribed on the road - unfortunately it's since been resurfaced, so instead we've provided a copy of the haiku - feel free to pretend you're reading it on the road!

Major Thomas Mitchell was the first recorded European to visit the area in 1836. He gave the mount it's European name, after considering others including Mt. Salamanca, Mt. Broughton, and Mt. Last Ditch. Here you will find a plaque commemorating his ascent of the mountain. On what day of the month did he ascend the majestic mount? =XX

Thanks to the Minister of Lands in 1937, who hiked to the top and proclaimed the view "the most beautiful panorama of fertile land in the world", and promised 500 pounds for a road, you have the option of driving to the final location. Of course, you can still hike or climb up!

You're looking for a small clip-top container.
