This is a new cache located in Caratunk Audubon Preserve, Brown Ave., Seekonk, MA.(off Newman Ave.) Parking lot coordinates are N 41 52.430 and W 071 19.320
Caratunk is a beautiful piece of property filled with birds and wildlife. Six miles of well marked trails are maintained for public use and easy walking in the quiet and natural setting. Owned and managed by Audubon, Caratunk was established in 1971 through the generosity of Mr. Charles G. Greenhalgh of Pawtucket, RI. The trails weave through nearly 200 acres of fields, forests, and wetlands. Trails are open only to the following activities: hiking, bird watching, nature study, photography, ski touring, and snowshoeing.The following are prohibited from the refuge: dogs, horses and other pets; picking or collecting of anything besides litter; picnicking or camping; all vehicles (including bicycles) beyond the parking lot; excessive noisemaking; and alcoholic beverages. Please stick to the trails as bushwacking here is a big no-no! Please do not hunt after dark as the refuge is only open sunrise to sunset. If you can, please leave a small donation in the building near the parking,lot. The refuge is well maintained and litter is not a big problem here but if you come across any litter you are encouraged to CITO. The previous cache placed in this refuge was a victim of muggles and animals. There are deer, fox, racoons, possum and all sorts of critters in here so please, as always, do not leave food or scented items such as candles or air fresheners in the cache. The cache is a small clear plastic container with a screw on white lid. Think small, but not micro, with your trade items. The cache, when it was placed, was filled with handcrafted jewelry items (mostly polymer clay) designed by The Venerable Bead.(Venbead) The theme is jewelry and wearable art but all items (especially handcrafted ones) are welcome. Because the cache is small, please be thoughtful about what you leave in the cache. The cache is located on the yellow trail. You only need to stray about 10 feet off the trail to get to the cache and there is no poison ivy or heavy brush. Please be discreet when trading and logging and please cover the cache well when you leave. You can get to the yellow trail from the red trail or travel through the mowed paths on both fields to get directly onto the yellow trail. Good luck and we hope you like our first cache. The cache is too small for a camera so if you would like to post pictures of your trip we would love that.
