High peak and former Lookout in the Western Cabinets. Six miles round trip with 3200 ft elevation gain on a seldom used trail.
This peak offers great views of Scotchmans II, Savage Mountain, and other peaks in the Lightning Creek Drainage.From Clark Fork Idaho drive up Lightning Creek road about 8 miles and turn east onto road #1084 and continue 0.9 miles to a primitive campsite next to the creek. Cross the creek and bushwhack straight up the hill for about 150 verticle feet to an old logging road. Follow the road uphill until it turns into trail #563. When I did the hike the trail contained many fallen trees but hopefully the forest service trail crew will cut them out eventually.The old lookout site at the top contains lots and lots of interesting items and leads one to believe the lookout had lots and lots of time to kill.
