A good ascent up the hills behind Largs (250m upwards climb) , starting from Douglas Park where the pretty flower displays in season are worth a look, and finishing at the unusual bumpy landscape higher up the hill with good views across to Cumbrae and Arran.
If you fancy a waddle today up a steep flight of steps followed by a further walk for a bit up the higher hill then this is for you. The starting point for the cache is Douglas Park at N 55D 47.339 W 4D 51.505. There is plenty of parking in nearby streets and, for those wishing to walk directly from the centre of Largs, the walk to the park takes about 10 minutes from Largs centre heading southwards along the main road towards Fairlie/Seamill/Ardrossan.Douglas Park has pretty displays of flowers in the summer season and you can often watch people bowling on the manicured lawns. The walk makes use of a flight of steps made from railway sleepers at the rear of the park to reach the hill above Largs from where there is a good viewpoint. Before ascending the hill you may wish to take a short detour and visit the old tomb. The walk to the cache continues up the hill from the viewpoint, likely taking about 40 minutes to reach from the park. The landscape here is rather strange and bumpy, but the views across to Cumbrae and Arran are pleasant on a fine day.
