Easy find, rural setting.
Just a few feet from this cache, on Dec. 16, 1930, 20-year old school teacher Velma Colter was brutally murdered. On Jan. 12, 1931, her accused killer, Raymond Gunn, was burned alive on top of the school house. The school was never rebuilt and the 6 remaining students were transferred to nearby schools. The mob that lynched Gunn and the crowd that watched has been estimated to be anywhere from 800 to 3000 people. A sad part of local history that has been largely forgotten.Cache contains a 1930-S dime in honor of Miss Colter. Other foreign coins, trinkets, etc. also in the cache.Please take a moment and write in the notebook log any personal stories or recollections of the tragedy.Cache is on public property. Access road is NOT all-weather, just dirt, and would be impassable after heavy rain or snowmelt.
