This is a multi-cache with a theme, a twist, and a ‘two-fer’! The
likelihood of the CBS Survivor series ever coming to Goose Bay is
rather slim, so for aficionados of the show, this might provide a
little diversion. Of course geocachers of all stripes are welcome
to do this cache. This is a 9-part multi, with most stations
do-able within a few minutes of your vehicle if you dare take it
over this trail. Our 2-wheel drive pickup easily traverses this
route. However, we would recommend walking the trail, as it can be
walked quite comfortably, with the total round trip being about 3
km (2 miles). Some minor bushwhacking may be required, so long
pants would be a good idea, although not really necessary.
Generally you will be in an open boreal forest subtype called
lichen-woodland, where black spruces dominate and the floor is
carpeted with Cladonia or caribou moss. When wet, this moss is
slippery to walk on, and when dry, it crumbles easily. Try to avoid
damage to this sensitive floor cover where possible. Be on the
lookout for huge mushrooms as well… if the season is right. This
cache should also (hopefully) be winter-accessible at all stages,
although snowshoes/skis would be necessary.
You must travel along the route stopping every few hundred
metres or so to gather info that will get you to the next stage.
Make sure you have something with you to record this information.
The locations/coordinates were checked on three different days, and
are within a 12-foot accuracy reading. Also, be on the lookout for
‘Reward’ and ‘Immunity’ Challenges along the way! (These challenges
are optional, but add to the fun of the overall cache.) The choices
you make along the way will determine what ‘rewards’ you wind up
with!
The final cache contains survival items, along with a novelty
$1,000,000 bill. Feel free to trade for anything you want, but only
1 million-dollar bill per cacher! Oh and the additional ‘cache’
item at the final cache is NOT for taking… it’s just there to hold
the prize money!!
