This cache is a dedication to Pee Wee Herman...who I think is cool.
Pee Wee's Playhouse will be the home to "Pee Wee's Big Adventure"
Travel Bug...the goal of the TB is to travel to the Alamo and then
return to this cache for future destinations.
The cache is a medium size container which includes star beads,
flag keychain, geocaching pin, Bad Majec GITD foot, and another
GITD foot.
I had the idea for this cache early this summer, but then came
across this cemetery by accident and knew it had to be the home for
Pee Wee...
Like so many other pioneer cemeteries, the Pee-Wee is connected
to a church. In 1830, the "Pewee" Baptist Church was formed, and in
1834 a building half a mile west of New Columbus (Ovid) was
constructed. On the same hill as the church, overlooking the valley
beyond, the cemetery was consecrated for the remains of the
faithful. While the congregation grew in the first half of the 19th
century, in the latter half, members numbered less than a dozen,
and they held services just once a month. In spite of the church's
decline, the cemetery continues to be utilized by area residents
and is well maintained.
Obadiah and Lucy Ann Hull, early settlers who owned land across
the valley and Fall Creek beyond, have restored and reset
headstones. Evidently from the flowers left at their graves, one of
their descendents has done his/her genealogy
NOTE: As in all of our cemeteries, caches are hidden as to not
disturb the stones. Please be respectful of the cemeteries and do
not pick up stones that have fallen or are stacked. We have not
hidden any caches under stones. Cemeteries are dawn to dusk
visiting. This is for your safety and neighbors peace of mind.
