Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the listed location, which doesn't have to be visited, although you may pick an important clue there.
Solve the puzzle below, and may a gentle trail towards a beautiful lake be your true reward.

The cache is an ammobox, originally primed with Snorkelman the Cach-U-Nut. It has been placed a few yards NW of N 40° 4(NUMBER1) W (NUMBER2). Both numbers contain exactly three digits past the decimal point. If you get a shorter or a longer sequence of numbers, please try again!
The container should be easy to spot but a very detailed hint has been provided just in case.
Make sure to forge ahead to the lake. It's less than half mile away and if you think the view from the cache site was great, then just wait, you'll be blown away by the views of the lake. The container is inaccessible in winter, but you may be allowed to log a winter find with a photo trip report.
The puzzle has been inspired by 74 A 60 68 L 76 T, but the owner provided a complete spoiler for her cache, so after some hesitation I chose to encrypt this name in the credits. Thanks for a great starting point!

8/26/04 modifications: changed title info and added a second optional clue waypoint, at N 40° 37.421 W 111° 48.938. It's an easy drive-by. To make the best sense of the puzzle, please disregard the last 3 letters of this clue word!
8/31/04 modifications: slightly agjusted the listed coords (thanks, rojo27!) & uploaded images. At least one cacher has cracked the code this week, BTW.
