The Central Texas Geocaching Society is teaming up with Keep Austin Beautiful, the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), the Colorado River Foundation and Travis County for the 10th Annual Underwater and Shoreline cleanup.
Last year a record number of volunteers hauled out and recycled 11.37 tons of trash.
This year we need about 1,000 volunteers to help.
Volunteers will spend half a day at one of 13 dive sites and 8 parks working to maintain the beauty of Lake Travis. Our group will be responsible for Bob Wentz / Windy Point.
To volunteer on one of the dive teams, call or visit any dive shop in the greater Austin area for complete details and registration forms.
Volunteer divers are needed for the event. But you don't have to be a diver to participate. Volunteers also are needed for a shoreline cleanup at the same time.
Volunteers will meet with their teams to dive and cleanup the shoreline during the early morning, and then everyone will reconvene at Carlos' N Charlie's Bar & Grill at Emerald Point Marina for lunch, live music, T-shirts and door prizes.
Cleanup supplies and equipment will be provided. Bring gloves and wear sturdy footwear and long pants would be a good idea too.
There will be a scavenger at our designated park. Whoever finds the cache first will get a ticket inside with a number on it that will be called out during the awards ceremony later at Carlos and Charlies, and a prize will be awarded for that ticket.
