Geocache Description:

This cache is in a gully area and is not recommended for small children. There is a fairly steep hill into the gorge and there are two or three trails to follow. There is no need to climb any gorge walls or rocks to move to find this cache. The terrain rating is for the trip in and out ONLY. NOT for finding the cache.

This falls near the township of Geneseo abounds with Indian folk lure and ledgends. One such ledgend tells of a beautiful Indian maiden, the daughter of a Seneca chieftain. She had been promised, by her father to a neighboring chieftan, who was old and ugly. On the day that the chief came to claim his bride, she and a young brave, whom she had promised herself to, had slipped away. Other braves took chase, wounding her lover with an arrow. Following the blood, the braves found the maiden and her lover kneeling in the stream at the edge of the falls. They arose and looked into each other's eyes, kissed and locked in each other's arms, leapt over the falls to their deaths. It is said that, to this day, after a heavy rain, with the stream running high, and the sun shining on the falls, the spirit of the Indian maiden can be seen in the mist as it raises out of the glen from the foot of the falls.
Others say that Gen. Sullivan was to have driven Indians over the falls to their death, in retaliatation of the torture and killing of two of his scouts. Today, this is said to be absolutely locally manufactured and without foundation.
There is evidence that a race of men inhabited this gully previous to the Senecas but we know very little of who, when or why. Mary Jamison was told that a portion of the Fall Brook bank had caved in, exposing a great number of
skeletons. The Indians always claimed that the bones were those of a prehistoric race that were here long before them. Mary Jamison also told of two white prisoners that were burned on the banks of Fall Brook.
Not too many years ago, here on the Wadsworth estate, you could find picnic grounds near the precipice over which the stream falls over 100 feet to the gorge below. The picnic grounds were very well known to the locals and many jolly parties stopped here to eat their lunch and spend an hour or two in the glen.
In 1906 the glen and the surrounding land was sold to a Major Winthorp A. Chanler, and has remained in the Chanler family since that time. It is to them, that we give thanks for allowing us to enjoy this great and beautiful place.
This is a two stage cache with a log book in each stage. Please sign both, and if for some reason you are unable to find the second part, E Mail me and I will give you a clue that might help. The first stage is a decon container and the second is a 9.5 x 5.5 x 3.5 deep first aid kit container. Both are in sight from the gully floor, but one much easier to see than the other. As usual, in gullys, the satillite readings are not going to be the best and this is one of the reasons that the one cache is quite viewable and might be kind of easy to find, but then you could get hung up on the other. PLEASE take the time to re-hide both caches, so that it is not made easy for the next cacher. Always keep it in mind that the dificulity of the cache reflects on the ability of the last finder to disguise his presence, to and at the cache site. Don't forget to bring your camera, and also your swimming trunks, if it is a warm day.
Please help to keep this beautiful gorge clean, by caching in and trashing out. Also we need to keep it in mind to leave it as much undisturbed as possible.
NOTE!!!!! IT IS REQUIRED THAT YOU SIGN THE LOG BOOK AT BOTH THE 1ST AND FINAL SITES, IN ORDER TO LOG YOUR FIND.
