Geocache Description:

You will get a spectacular view from this cache. Bring your camera and post a pic with your log.

This is a spot I have been going to for over 40 years. Situated at the base of the Nipomo Foothills (Temettate Ridge), the view is spectacular. On a clear day you can see all the way from Santa Maria to the hills behind Avila beach. The name Nipomo actually comes from the Chumash Indian word Nipumu, which loosely translates to “foot of the hills”. Imagine the view they had before the Eucalyptus trees were planted in the distance. You will be looking at the Rancho Nipomo, one of the first and largest of the Mexican land grants in San Luis Obispo County. This 37,887 acre land grant was deeded to Captain William Goodwin Dana in 1837. You can see his adobe house, built in 1840, off in the distance. Captain Dana’s decedents still farm some of this land today. There is a lot of history here. Go to Dana Adobe.org for more Nipomo History. Take a little time to enjoy the view, and don’t forget your camera. You don’t have to trespass on any private property to “grab” this cache. You will have to travel about one-quarter of a mile on a county maintained, well packed dirt road. Don’t let a little dust bother you; the view is well worth the effort. Easy freeway access; it’s only 2 miles from the Nipomo Tefft St. exit. There is room for a couple small TB’s. You are looking for a 5” x 7” x 2” camo container. The coordinates used were picked up from 9 satellites.
  • There are all kinds of goodies in here to start this cache. There are some wild flower seed packs, ruler, sewing kit, dice, cards, something special for the FTF and more.
