Chookies: I write in response to:
Alansee requested Line of Sight #2 (Multi-cache) to be archived at 1/24/2011
Log Date: 1/24/2011 The item required to do this one is missing, it hasn't been found for coming up for 2 1/2 years, and the owners left the game years ago.
I find it interesting that the item to do this one is allegedly missing. We have been told this several times, and on each occasion, we have travelled, walked, looked, and found the item in question.
I also find interesting the theory that because something hasn't been found for coming up to 21/2 years that it must not be there. I guess there's no more gold to be found on the planet, and prospectors should stop looking.
Now my point here is is not to be sarcastic in a nasty way, but to highlight the fact that our assumptions are Not always correct. So many times I have been told that our caches are missing, only to go and find them right where they should be.
Perhaps instead of telling others what we think should be done, we as members of the caching community could be a little better at communicating with each other. An example of this would be the second half of the previous log, where the poster (whom I am led to believe is a lovely chap of many cache finds), states that the owners of this cache left the game years ago; - Well I am the owner of this cache, and if the poster had checked out our profile page, he would see that we have visited Geocaching.com several times recently, intermittently since we were very active in the game, and still receive the emails.
I understand that when we pay money to a game/entertainment provider, that we have a right to whinge or request action due to our perceived lack of service, however this is a game of voluntary participants, many who have invested countless hours into their caches.
Perhaps we can all make fewer assumptions, and talk to each other more effectively, instead of needing to speak with an adjudicator.
We have met so many wonderful people in this activity of caching (even amongst the few frustrating characters), and believe we could all do a little better in our communication.
To prevent further frustration for others, I will now proceed to archive this series of caches.
