The cache container is a magnetic key holder obtained from Team Lawrence's 'Cache Daddy' and is located in Libby Hill Park near a memorial erected in 1894 to honor Confederate soldiers and sailors. The monument features a statue on a large 100-foot Corinthian column.
However, even more impressive is the view of the James River which is one of the best in the city. A nearby marker relates that the city's founder, William Byrd II, noted that the view of the bend in the James River from this vantage point was so reminiscent of the Thames view in Richmond, England, that he gave his new town the same name.
There are tables with a great view right on the hill and while we recommend this area highly for a picnic lunch during daylight hours we would urge cachers to avoid hunting in this area at night.
Also nearby is the site of Patrick Henry's "give me liberty or give me death" speech where you can also find the St. John's Micro cache by Code_Zero, one of the area's more prolific cachers. Certainly worth a visit while you're in the area. If you're in the mood for a bit of a brain teaser you can also check out our own Liberty or Death cache that's in the same area.
