Geocache Description:

A walk in the woods to the banks of a Birkshire branch river.

There is an area of the Birkshires that is still unspoiled by culture, festivals, fancy restaurants and trendy plays: the Hilltowns, or the Hidden Hills -- hidden in the sense that there are no Interstate highway exits. You can only get there by taking back roads. Step off the beaten path and experience what the Birkshires used to be. State highways such as 112, 8a and 116 are particularly beautiful. Even Route 9 is picturesque in this area of the state.

To the side of the road, there is a well established, but somewhat hidden jeep track that starts the walk to the cache (see hints for lat/lon). Go to the firepit, turn 90 degrees and go half way to the river. There is parking at lat/lon N 42 29.475 W 072 58.236.

It will be difficult in the late spring, summer and early fall to get acurate GPS readings due to the dense foliage, so the hints/spoiler section contains the lat/lon of the path into the cache from the road, as well as another hint.

The level of this river changes predictably depending on the season. There are places where you can swim in the summer, although it is best to have "river shoes" on as you wade around.

Once you find the cache, take some time to explore and play around at the river, like the photos suggest.

Finally, when you leave, take a beer bottle: cache in, trash out!
