Apple Pie Hill II (another slice) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Pofe: Greetings from Geocaching.com

I have been looking at caches in the area that have been temporarily disabled for a while now and it looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to have it reposted, it will be no problem. Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks,

Geocache Description:

This location is just too good to go without a cache for too long - when we noticed the previous "Apple Pie Hill" cache had been archived we had to act!!! As the name suggests, you'll be driving up a hill - and there are some soft sandy spots on the way in. Recommend 4WD but, apparently, it can be done with a car as we've seen several cars on our trips in.

OK - let's try this again. Replaced our replacement cache with a regular size cache hidden slightly off the "beaten track." If we have to we'll just keep replacing it...

NOTE: Coordinates have been updated for the new location.

From the sign at the site:"At an elevation of 205 feet, Apple Pie Hill is one of the highest points in southern New Jersey. Surrounding the hill is the vast expanse of the Pinelands National Reserve, established by Congress in 1978, the first such reserve in the United States. The 60-foot fire tower was erected in 1950 and is manned during fire season by the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. The Batona hiking trail, established in 1961, traverses Apple Pie Hill and is part of a 50+mile trail, linking Bass River, Lebanon, and Wharton State Forests."We haven't seen hide nor hair of the forest service in our trips there. Not that we're recommending it, but the bold of heart have been known to venture up a few steps on the fire tower itself to get a better view. On a clear day you can see Philadelphia.

This area gets lots of visitors - particularly the kind that like to disrupt caches - please rehide reasonably well.
