This is the third day in a row that they don’t need me for jury duty. So I hid a third cache down the hill a bit from the courthouse. At this rate, I might hide Day 5 in my own backyard!
Visiting this spot makes me wish that I had a little kayak that I could launch from here. What a shame that Capitol Lake has a milfoil problem. I remember cleaning up milfoil in Green Lake up in Seattle as part of the Seattle Aquarium’s dive team. It’s a never-ending task.
Did you know that the only reason there is a fall chinook salmon run through Capitol Lake into the Deschutes River is that in 1949 a Department of Fisheries truck carrying adult chinook salmon broke down on the road crossing the river? Rather than letting the fish die, citizens volunteered to haul the fish in gunnysacks and release them above Tumwater Falls to spawn upstream.
*****Enjoy the boardwalk ** BUT ** pay attention to the signs that read, "slippery when wet."
So, if Capitol Lake doesn't get too full of chinook and milfoil, if the reviewers don't get too tired, and if you don't slip on the wet boardwalk, tune in tomorrow for Jury Duty Day 4.
