Geocache Description:

Fear not, this is one of my easier caches and shouldn’t take you too long… ;)A roughly circular walk around Netley Common, Southampton’s last remaining piece of open heath land. Although close to the M27, this little spot is surprisingly peaceful and is a particularly pleasant place to spend some time, perhaps with a picnic.

You can read up on the history of Netley Common right here, (visit link) and even a brief mention can be found here (visit link)

The cache you’re looking for is an old fuse canister, painted green, about the same size as a pint glass (well it is!). To find it, you’ll need to collect some information (c’mon now, it’s not *that* simple!). The terrain is nice and flat and, generally, mud-free! Mostly OK for pushchairs, wheelchairs etc etc as there are nice gravel pathways which I recommend you follow all around.

Here we go then:

Park at N50 54.258 W1 19.225, just off Kanes Hill,

Go to N50 54.249 W1 19.265 and count the vertical fence-posts along the path that leads to the Tumulus.
A =

Now follow your GPS to N50 54.263 W1 19.631 and count the number of steps that lead to a metal kissing gate.
BC =
If when you do the final maths, the answer doesn't make sense, come back and check your answer for this one - it's the stage that causes most problems! You need to count all the way to the kissing gate!

Go back up the steps and head for N50 54.169 W1 19.548 where you’ll find a sign. On this sign is a phone number, the last 6 digits of which are:
DEFGHJ =

Now go to N50 54.177 W1 19.385, rest awhile on the bench and get your brain working on these ‘ere puzzles:

NOTE: Puzzles updated 3rd February 2007, to reflect (hopefully) more accurate co-ordinates! Updated again 18th February 2011 to reflect the fact that the phone number at point three had changed.

And with thanks to The Padgies, updated 23/2/12 because last weekend I posted an incorrect puzzle

The final co-ordinates run thusly:
N 50 54.UVW
W001 19.XYZ

Where:
U = A - C
V = B + J
W = E
X = F - E
Y = A - H
Z = F - (2B)
I hope you enjoy this cache; I certainly enjoyed hiding it!
