This cache is so named because: A) It begins at the Pass Lake trailhead; B) It is meant as a reminder to keep a lookout for any sign of Garrett Bardsley, the missing scout, while searching for this cache. (It is also the title of a Beatles song, and I admit that's where I really came up with the name for this cache.)I have provided some detailed instructions, with coords, in hopes of minimizing the chances of anyone else losing their way in the area. If your GPS doesn't have map software, please bring a map (Mirror Lake USGS topo). Also, prepare yourself with adequate footwear, clothing, food and water, and emergency gear. Sudden storms in the High Uintas are not uncommon, even during warm weather. The distance from the trailhead to the cache is just over 2 miles, but keep in mind this entire area is at or near the 10,000 foot elevation. The cache elevation is 10,162 feet.
You begin your hike at the Pass Lake trailhead (parking coords: N 40-42.812, W 110-53.499) which is just off the Mirror Lake Hiway in the Uinta Mountains. This trailhead is actually across the hiway and west from Pass Lake, and is located at the southwest end of the parking lot. You begin hiking on the Pass Lake trail, but will soon cutoff to the Lofty Lake trail by turning right at the sign (N 40-42.769, W 110-53.940). From here you hike past Reids Meadow to the Cuberant Lake cutoff (N 40-43.316, W 110-54.306) which forks left. There is a sign at this cutoff pointing northwesterly to Cuberant Lake.
After some rolling terrain and a bit of a steep, but short, climb on the flank of Mount Marsell, you descend into Cuberant Lake Basin. The meadow you hike into is where the Bardsleys were camped the day Garrett became lost (N 40-44.001, W 110-55.073). Follow the trail along the left (west) side of the small pond (Cuberant Lake #1) and continue west along the trail to the shore of Cuberant Lake #2 (unnamed on USGS maps) where Garrett was last seen (N 40-44.066, W 110-55.170). The cache is located south of this lake, over a small rise, through the timber and into a boulder field.
The cache is stocked with some emergency gear (poncho, shoelaces, sewing kit, etc.). Please take something only if you really need it, and please consider coming prepared to leave an emergency-related item if you plan on trading.
Be careful on your hike and good luck with your searches.
