Geocache Description:

Did you know that Oregon has a mini Yellowstone northeast of the Alvord desert? Me either. BLM has it developed just a little bit with an interpretive sign and some fencing. You can walk around here, carefully, and see steam vents, boiling mud pots and a neat, deep, blue, morning glory pool. Don’t take a dip as it will scald you at over 200 F. There are no boardwalks like at Yellowstone so step carefully.

The turn off the main (gravel) road is at N 42 40.533, W 118 27.079 and takes you south to a green cattleguard, then east out around the butte on a dusty, rough, washboardy road. Not too many places to hide a cache so it is a small 3 inch Tupperware container. I thought there was a bench mark there at first but it was not listed in the database. Nearest one is 0.3 miles back down the road on your way in. There are also no facilities of any kind here or nearby, so plan ahead. If you gotta go #2 we did find a port-a-pot up Pikes Creek. It is a rough road to the west just north of the turn off to go to Desert Peach or Alvord Hot springs. *****Warning***** Geocacher found that the cache was guarded in mid-June. The guard is in an image and you DO NOT want to disturb him/her. This is no joke. Looks like a rattle snake but lets not get close enough to find out. Maybe it will move on soon? Send us a report even if it is a DNF. ***********Warning************
