The octagonal building that once was the location of stage 1 is
now behind a locked gate, but is visible from there. The coords at
stage 1 are now written on the wooden sign next to the locked
gate
Beware of some briars and mud at stage 2
A follow-on to Celestial Seasoning (GCJ4WP). This version requires
calculation of the initial waypoint via a standard two-sight
celestial fix.
The posted coordinates are not the cache location. The posted
coordinates are not the cache location. They are the parking
lot of the school that my children attended, but are close enough
to use as the "initial position" for computing the LOPs. If you
don't understand what that means you will not be able to find this
cache.
Last night I took 2 sextant sights of a celestial body. The
sight data is as follows:
1: 9/6/2004 00:05GMT Hcorr = 75° 44.6'
2: 9/6/2004 05:30 GMT Hcoor = 38° 53.4'
The celestial body is that written on the cover of the Celestial
Seasoning logbook. If you previously logged that cache and didn't
remember to write down the body's name, email me and I'll provide
it. That said, you should be able to determine the body given the
sight data alone.
Your computed position will lead you to a small multi-sided
building which is stage 1 of a standard 3-part multi-cache.
Since celestial will be accurate to only about 500', you will be
looking for a small parking lot, with a playground and the stage 1
structure visible therefrom.
If you haven't found Celestial Seasoning as yet and want to do
both caches in the same trip, email me your computed coords for the
first cache, and if correct I'll respond with the name of the
body.
Cache is now a small plastic box.
Stage 2 is a blue plastic micro container that has been hidden
moderately agressively to deter muggling. It is approximately 4
miles from stage 1, and can be accessed by bicycle or walking for
various distances according to your preferences. You can also drive
quite close if you are feeling "weak". The final is approximately
.65 miles from stage 2 and must be accessed by bike or on foot.
I scouted the new stage locations during the floods in 2009, and
both should be safe from high water. The Greenway is closed after
dark.
The parking lot at stage 1 is private, and gated now, but you
can park on the street and walk to it. You can also access stage 1
from the Greenway.
