Geocache Description:

This is a 35mm cache placed somewhere along the wonderful River's Edge Trail. It is located in a spot on the trail where muggles can be seen coming a long ways in both direction. It is a flat, paved trail open to all on bikes, foot, skates or in wheelchairs. It is 1.03 miles to the cache from the parking area. Handicap restrooms are along the trail.

This short hike will take you past Black Eagle Falls as described by Captain Lewis who discovered it on June 14, 1805 "a beautiful little Island well timbered is situated about the middle of the river. in this Island on a Cottonwood tree an Eagle has placed her nest; a more inaccessable spot I believe she could not have found...this fall is certainly much the greatest I ever behald except those two (falls) which I mentioned (seeing) below". This hike will also take you past the remains of the huge Anaconda Copper Smelter that was located on the opposite shore. Some remains of the foundations can still be seen on the reclaimed hillside. The parking area is at N47 31.086 W111 16.361 Bring your own pen. Enjoy the walk!
