The Wall Street Journal - November 1977
MILFORD, Iowa - The University of Okoboji, located somewhere
on the boundary line between the Big Ten and the Big Eight, has
everything you would expect of a top flight institution of higher
learning. Everything, that is, except dormitories, classrooms, a
curriculum, students and a faculty.
That leaves bumper stickers, pennants, sweatshirts and about 500
trash barrels with signs imploring potential litterers to "Help
Keep Your Campus Clean."
But it's the latter things that have helped make the University
of Okoboji what it is--or, rather, what it isn't.
You may fill out the Uinversity of Okoboji entrance exam
here.
Below is an examination that will allow you to apply for early
admission to the Geocaching Studies program of the renowned
University of Okoboji. If you answer all the questions correctly
and follow the instructions, you will determine the correct
coordinates of this cache ---- which, by now, you've figured out
are not the ones listed. Those would put you somewhere in the
middle of West Lake Okoboji. Be advised that the cache will be
found on dry land within 1 mile of the listed coordinates. It is on
private property (with the owners permission) and within a few feet
of a public road, so don't go rummaging around in somebody's back
yard.
WINTER RATING: No problem except in moderately
heavy snow.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Each of the 15 questions in the test corresponds to one digit of
the coordinates. Each question has four possible answers. Sum the
numbers of all the correct answers to form one digit of the
coordinates. If no answers are correct, the digit zero, of
course.
SAMPLE QUESTION:
X: George Washington:
1) Had a first name "George".
2) Has his picture on the five
dollar bill.
3) Was born in Arnolds Park, IA.
4) Was the first president of the
USA.
Since 1 and 4 are the correct answers, digit X=1+4=5.
When you've answered all the questions, arrange the digits in
the following order:
N AB° CD.GFE W HIJ° KL.ONM
