Once at the cache location you'll be treated to magnificent views of Meriden and the surrounding area, you'll see a great view of the Sleeping Giant that really shows why the park got its name!
This cache is protected by a combination lock. There are two ways to get the combination for the lock:
1: The Mathematically Inclined :
Use the natural log math function to derive the combination.
As we all know, all Geocachers love logs, especially all natural ones, right?
The formula is going to be very simple for some people and very hard for others. All you need to do is calculate e4.96284463026. Add a '0' to the beginning of the number because we recently got a new lock with 4 digits instead of three!
"e" is in use in mathematics in many areas, it's used quite often in the Bell Curve equation which determines the shape of cable hanging between two poles. A very useful function when running cable TV lines, Telephone lines and the like. Without some rudimentary understanding of e, you may never have got Cable Modems or DSL to your house! Speaking of houses, compound interest calculations on mortgages also use "e" quite a bit.

There is a micro cache located @ N 41 33.752 W 072 48.844 This micro will give you the combination. This will be a hard micro to find because you really SHOULD do the math! Add a '0' to the beginning of the number because we recently got a new lock with 4 digits instead of three
The Info:
Trade Item Info: Items must be able to fit through a 2" diameter opening.
Park @ N 41 33.632 W 072 48.680. Walk 300 yards North along the road to the trail head (there's a signpost there). This cache takes you along a little bit of the Metacomet trail (Blue Blazes) and then, you'll come to a lake, on the other side, at a concrete block barrier, you'll have to leave the marked trail for a poorly marked, but very open trail. This trail was an old Red Blazed trail but seems to have not been maintained for some time. Follow this trail to the cache. If you have not yet seen the view, head SE from the cache location to see it!
