Geocache Description:

This cache is located on top of the Judith Mountains in North Central Montana. Though the road is a good gravel road I don't know if I would want to take a low car up it. It is no problem however for a SUV or pickup. I gave it a 2 on the terrain rating as it is a steep rocky road. It is a tin box.

This cache is located below Judith Peak itself at a turn around. This is a wonderful spot to view the surrounding countryside. If you find some metal debris or some old holes dug while searching for the cache it is remnants of the gold era that took place in these mountains in the 1880's. Over 3 million dollars in gold was mined from this area back then. To reach it drive north out of Lewistown and turn east on the Maiden Camp Road. The old gold camp is located at N47 10.749 W109 13.891 At it's peak this camp had 1200 souls living in it. This camp prospered for 15 years. It is now a few old original buildings and several new homes. Judith Peak itself is the one with the radio and cell towers on it. Drive up to the top for one of the best views of central Montana you will ever find! On top on a clear day you will be able to view almost all of the "Island Mountain Ranges" of eastern Montana including The Big & Little Snowy, The Moccasins, The Bears Paw, the Sweet Grass Hills, The Big Belts and most likely the Highwood and maybe even the Rocky's! I had seven muley bucks come by as I took in the view! This area is snowed in in the winter but may be possible to ski or snowshoe to it in early winter or early spring. Snow drifts will often block the road too but it is open all summer long with several nice camping spots and hiking trails in the area. Take the eastern way out to view the old town of Giltedge if you like. This road will take you through Maiden Canyon past some active gold mines too. Enjoy the beauty and the history!
It is the original log and is torn up but I like it. As always, write small
