High mountain lake at 7336' reached via Chaffin Creek Trail.
The trail is well marked and follows the north side of Chaffin Creek for 4 1/2 miles. The trail enters the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness at 2 1/2 miles in. The grade is moderate for the first few miles climbing steeply after fording Chaffin Creek at 4 1/2 miles. The ford area can be dangerous at high water levels. The elevation gain from the trailhead to the lake is 2400' and a 6 mile hike. Hart Lake's clear depths mirror the surrounding peaks and is reported to have good rainbow fishing.
