Nothing hard here to find. This cache is dedicated to our departed friend and compatriot. Sam spent a lot of time across the street from here at Palatka Skydive. Maybe you can come out here on a Saturday afternoon and you will see one of Sam's friends Jumping overhead. Take just a minute and imagine and maybe you will see Sam descend aways with them.
Sam Bussey
January, 1957 - September, 2004
Sam Bussey, SkyDiver, GeoCacher, Historian, friend.
Sam
was quite an amazing a person. He was focused to an extent rarely seen.
This is demonstrated in that in the eight months he was caching, he
amassed over 1,000 finds. Some of us tried to keep up with him but
quickly realized that we just could not keep pace. Many of us met him
out on the trail or knew him through his logs.
He gave us a clue to his other activities by his moniker: JumpJunkie.
Yes Sam jumped out of airplanes. And off buildings, and antennas, and
bridges. He was not only an accomplished Sky Dive instructor but a
B.A.S.E. (Buildings, Antennas, Spans, Earth) jumper as well.
Sam was into history: he was constantly reading books about various
political rulers, conflicts, and war campaigns. He could explain the
factors surrounding historical events and figures that I barely
recalled.
Sam was remarkable for the level of privacy he maintained. Although I
worked with him for over 10 years and spent hours with him outside of
work, he maintained a clear line between the public Sam and the private
Sam.
To those that spent any time with him at all, he was a friend. He would
help in any way possible. Any request was granted (unless you were
wrangling for a hint on a cache) without question. I will miss Sam. The
way he ribbed me mercilessly when I could not locate an easy hide. Even
the way he laughed when I fell during the rush to complete Swamp King's
CLUE series.
I will miss Sam at work, I will miss Sam at play. Knowing Sam has
improved my life and that of those that knew him, we will all miss him. This cache page memorial was written by Sam's closest friend TurfBeaver. We will miss you Sam.
Good Bye JumpJunkie
