Geocache Description:

This cache is placed at the Nahant Marsh with permission from River Action and the Putnam Museum. Access the cache from Wapello Avenue via South Concord Street or Highway-22.

The final cache is in a large peanut butter jar. There is a log book, pencil and small items to trade. This cache is child and wheelchair friendly. The Nahant Marsh Educational Center is extremely child friendly. I recommend taking the youngsters between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM weekdays. However, you should be aware that they may not want to leave. When the Nahant center is open, the second set of gates will open allowing you to drive all the way to the Educational Center. Park as close to the coordinates as you wish. If the center is closed, you can park in the first lot and walk to the cache. There are two ways to find this geocache. The coordinates listed above are for the SHORT VERSION. They are the coordinates of the Educational Center. Step inside for a quick tour of the facilities and information about Nahant Marsh. The nice person in charge will then cheerfully give you the coordinates (or possibly directions) to the final cache. Please notice the rain barrel at the northwest corner of the center. These barrels are available from River Action. Yes, I bought one to collect rain water for plants and items that are better washed with soft rain water (i.e., hair). If the Nahant center is closed, park at and read the kiosk placed at N41° 29.263, W90° 38.283. This will give you some interesting insight to Nahant Marsh and it also lists scheduled events. You can then begin hunting the cache at the trailhead a short distance away at N41° 29.270, W90° 38.282. Permission has been granted to hunt after hours and at night. This LONG VERSION begins by finding the micro-cache hidden at N41° 29.502 W90° 37.989. This micro-cache will give you the needed coordinates to get you started on your way to finding the final cache. When the wind is out of the southeast, do not be alarmed. You are getting the natural aroma of the Davenport Compost Facility. Take some time to visit this facility also. Their compost is for sale and will add to the productivity of your home gardens.
