Jessy Would Have Loved This Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

TeamSkeeterBait: Archived due to nearby ATV trail that was recently built. Thanks for all the visits. I'm sure Jessy would have loved it.

Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden at the top of Walnut Mountain in Paugnut State Forest. Parking can be found off Guerdat Rd. in Torrington at N41 50.893, W73 6.849, with a 0.6mi walk to the traihead at N41 51.358, W73 6.670. You can try parking at the trailhead for a quicker approach, although the road is a bit narrow, and I don't know what winter maintenance is like. And watch out for broken glass along the trail - especially for your four-footed companions.

We placed this our first cache on the first anniversary of the death of our beloved dog, Jessy. Every cache we search for finds one of us musing about how "Jessy would have loved this!" She was a real woods dog, and she loved being with us on our hikes. We miss her terribly, and we thought this spot would be a place she would have enjoyed. We've placed an ammo can full of miscellaneous goodies, heavy on dog-themed items, in a spot where you can sit with your best friend, relax after a brisk walk on a crisp October day, and look out east over the valley below (probably a better view once the leaves thin out.) There's a $5 Petco gift gard as a FTF gift - please use it on some treats for a special dog in your life. Please feel free to take a picture of yourself, especially if you're lucky enough to have a dog with you on this hike. Dog toys are an especially welcome trade, although you should stay away from rawhide, bones, biscuits, and flavored chew toys. And even if you're not a dog person, come on up and enjoy the view.

Letterboxers should poke around for a nearby DEP State Forest Series letterbox, as well as at least one private letterbox.

2005-Oct-03: Tweaked the difficulty up half a notch due to the number of people who've reported trouble finding the cache. No bushwacking necessary!! You'll be on well-worn (if not terribly well-blazed) trails for all but the last 100 feet or so. There are many switch-backs and GPS coverage is poor, so don't let the arrow fool you!!
