Thibodaux Water Works Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

LSUMonica: I took a look at the area today and BOY they have really cleaned this area up! Lots of trees missing and other debris picked up. So I am going to archive this listing with a tougher cache in the area soon!

Geocache Description:

Small container located on the west bank of Bayou Lafourche near the weir. Due to presence of eletrical lines nearby, coordinates may be slightly off.

In the old days Bayou Lafourche was an important route of transportation between the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico. Beginning as a tributary of the Mississippi River beginning at Donaldsonville and ending at the Gulf of Mexico near Grand Isle, Bayou Lafourche has been billed as the "Longest Street in America".

Prior to the establishment of the weir near the cache site in the 1970's, boats continue to travel the length of Bayou Lafourche. Although the upper section of Bayou Lafourche is closed to boat traffic, the lower section near Golden Meadow continues to serve as important artery of marine transportation.
