Haystack Mountain is one of my favorite spots. As a child we used to hike it many weekends with my Dad and cousins. The view is beautiful especially in the fall. It is located off CT Rt. 272 in Norfolk CT. October weekends, you can drive about 1.2 miles in from the state road for much easier access. Other times of the year you have to park at the entrance and either walk the road or take the yellow trail. For more information on it go to: http://dep.state.ct.us/stateparks/parks/haystack.htm
To find the coordinates for the final cache you must first climb the tower and collect some information:
A - The number of supports around the bottom of the roof (hint – more than 23)
B – The number of stone columns at the top
C – The date on the benchmark on the floor at the top of the tower
D – The date the tower was built ( on stone in front)
E - The number of steps (landings not included)
As always this is being logged as a subscriber only cache for the first few weeks to encourage others to contribute to Groundspeak so the services can continue to improve.
