How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
Location is at IPFW. Terrain rating is due mainly to length of multicache - you may walk nearly 3 miles to hit all 4 sites. Terrain itself is easy - you can get pretty close to the sites via paved sidewalks. Additional terrain is easy to navigate but may be muddy. Difficulty rating is for finding pill bottles and keeping your activities hidden from muggles!
Remember the 80’s phenomenon of “Choose Your Own Adventure” books? Well, those were the idea behind this multi-cache at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). To celebrate its 40th anniversary, IPFW has created a “choose your own adventure” multi-cache.
From the first cache (prescription pill bottle), you can choose to follow one set of coordinates for the traditional cache (small ammo box, so plan trades accordingly) or two sets of coordinates for a Travel Bug University. BEWARE OF MUGGLES - students are everywhere!
Parking on campus is free in any lots NOT marked with an “A” sign. All buildings are open, with vending machines and clean bathrooms, daylight hours plus.
Either multi-cache will take you on a short journey around different parts of the campus, accessible and appropriate for those of all ages and skill levels. Killer mosquitoes should be minimal, but it’s Indiana so they may be around! As this is a university with 12,000 students around, beware of muggles, and consider doing this cache during evening or weekend hours!
The final caches also include info on other neat areas on campus, such as the Native Indiana Trees Walk.
IPFW Travel Bug University: Thanks to Team Jammer in MI who gave us his blessing in blatantly stealing the idea! The semester has started! All Travel Bugs attending classes at the University will receive a diploma and depart with the wisdom and knowledge required to complete their journeys. Feel free to log this cache as a find without taking or leaving a TB. If you take a travel bug from this cache, please make sure to log it on the bug’s home page! This is a travel bug swap only – there are no other items in the cache for trading. Please do NOT remove any TBs that do not have a diploma attached!
The cache is located at IPFW, 2101 E. Coliseum Blvd. For driving directions to campus, visit www.ipfw.edu/maps/directions/shtml
In conjunction with this cache, we will start 4 travel bugs out in the university as its first alumni (Don the Mastodon #1-4). In honor of our 40th anniversary, these bugs have the goal of racing each other to see who can visit 40 different states and return to the university in time for Homecoming! (None of the TBs completed a foreign language component while at the university, so they’d prefer to stay in the United States!) We’ll post any photos we receive of the bugs at any other schools or universities! (E-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org)
