Geocache Description:

Cache is ammo can hidden in Lancaster County Conservancy Rannels-Kettle Run Nature Preserve.

The Rannels-Kettle Run Nature Preserve is located near the Lancaster-Lebanon County border. The most convenient parking area is the one already established for the Upper Hopewell Forge Wildlife Sanctuary (this property can be found in the publication Guide to the Nature Preserves of the Lancaster County Conservancy). To reach this area, take PA Route 501 north out of Lancaster, through Lititz, to the red light at Brickerville. At Brickerville, go left (west) on US Route 322. Go left on Dead End Road and then right on Pumping Station Road. Here you will find a good-sized parking area at N40 14.298 W076 20.207. To access the Rannels-Kettle Run Nature Preserve, walk west along the Horseshoe Trail (yellow blazes) from the parking lot.

Rannels-Kettle Run Nature Preserve consists of 81 acres with a trail length of .94 miles, moderate due to steep slope. Adjoining State Game Lands and the Horseshoe Trail, this preserve includes the hillside between Kettle Run and the top of the ridge. A small tributary of Hammer Creek meanders through the woods. More than 10 species of ferns grow on the property, a fine example of a mixed hardwood forest, uncut for 60+ years. This property was donated by the Rannels Family in 1998.

This cache can also be reached from the Fire Tower road off Rt 322 near the Leb/lanc county lines..it's a longer hike...check your maps and plan accordingly based on the other cache(s) in the area...have fun and enjoy the quest.
