Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the above coordinates.. Read the description below to find coordinates.

The Manassas Industrial School for Colored Youth opened in October, 1894. Its founder, Jane Serepta Dean, was born a slave in western Prince William County, ca. 1852. It was her wish to create a school where young African-American men and women could learn a marketable trade and become independent members of society. This site is today part of The Manassas Museum System. A bronze model of the campus, outlines of the foundations of original buildings, historical markers and an information kiosk tell the rich history of this school. Interpretive markers and the kiosk tell the story of Dean's struggle to raise money from Northern philanthropists, show photographs of some of the thousands of students who attended the school, and reveal the determination and commitment of all those affiliated with this institution from 1894 to 1966.
