How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

This is our first cache so we wanted to make it special. It’s a two-stage cache that you have to answer some questions to get the coordinates. The common starting point is the parking lot of Blue Jay Point County Park.
The hiking is not too dificult but does have some grade changes.

We have 2 questions below (one from my 5 year old and one from my 11 year old) . Plug the answer to these questions into the formula provided to get the final numbers in the coordinates of the stage one micro. After finding the micro (a black Taped bottle - please leave the coordinates in the bottle), you can get the coordinates for stage 2 (a green ammo can). All caches are within 100 feet or so of a trail.

Lots of goodies and a camera to take a picture of you and your adventurers. PLEASE LEAVE THE CAMERA. Just advance the film (at the top right of the camera) for the next visitor and make a note in the log book. When all the pictures are taken I’ll post them here on this site.

UPDATE -4-12-15 - Just posted the pics from the previous camera and placed a new one in the cache today.

UPDATE -11-10-18 - Just posted the pics from the previous camera. A lot of the pics were really dark. Thinking I waited to long to pull it. Did include a (dark) pic of me and my 2 sons (who originally put this cache out in 2004)

Please note the number in the log book. It will be necessary for another cache we will be doing later this year.

Blue Jay Park is beautiful and an fairly easy to moderate hike. Please enjoy it and be very discreet when you replace the cache so others may enjoy it.

Latitude for Micro-cache:
N 35° 58.???
Question from my 11 year old: Find the name of the number 25 Pokemon character. Look at the third letter in the name. On a standard phone, what number does that letter fall under.
Now take that number (N) and plug it into this formula.
(43 x N) + 15 This number will replace the ??? in the coordinates above.

Longitude for Micro-cache:
78° 38.???
Question from my 5 year old: For the year 2004, count the number of days from his birthday Feb. 28 to the first official day of summer according to NOAA. Do not include his birthday but include the first day of summer in the count
Now take that number (N) and plug it into this formula.
(3 x N) - 72 This number will replace the ??? in the coordinates above.

Edit: 9-20-18- This is a very old Geocache - My 5 year old and 11 year old are now 19 and 25 respectively. We have refreshed everything and replaced the micro cache. Added some special goodies ( My sons are both gamers). Remember leave one item take one item Thanks for keeping it interesting.

UPDATE -6-21-20 - Went in with my son Matthew (now 21) to refresh the swag and change out the camera (pics will be up as soon as I can get them). Replaced the micro-cache as we lost it at some point and had to change formula to go straight to last leg. It’s a Double Quest again

UPDATE -11-26-23 - Went in with my sons Taylor (30) and Matthew (24) to refresh the swag and change out the camera (pics will be up as soon as I can get them). Replaced the micro-cache as we lost it at some point with a not so good alternative. Will need to put something more solid there but this is effective

Have Fun
