There is a history to this part of Palatine. A train ran through here in the early 1900's. The P.L.Z.&W. (Palatine, Lake Zurich,Wauconda)railroad. It brought farm goods to Chicago and people from Chicago to the "Great Outdoors" of Deer Grove F.P. Part of the railroad right of way is now under the Palatine bike trail, especially in the cache's vicinity.

.......UPDATE......9/9/06 Due to recent complaints about this cache's ratings I have raised the dificulty rating again because folks have had quite a tough time finding it since day one. But the terrain rating stands- the clue says "why would you leave the trail" so I would suggest you don't leave the trail and do not go near the water or mud (mud and water are not on the trail!)
......update........4/15/17 Apparently the hint has been misleading for 12 years, so I have reworded it today. Sorry if this caused anybody problems.
