Geocache Description:

Placed near the top around Pedens Pulpit area on Ruberslaw

For some years Alexander Peden lay concealed in a Covenanting household at Langside(now a ruin)and whenever the authorities arrived to search the house, he hid in a cave. From this hideout he used to preach to the Covenanters and baptize secretly on the summit of Ruberslaw - the great brown hill which dominates the valley. This is a favourite walk of mine having spent most of my childhood around this area. The day we set the cache there was someone with a metal detector looking around the old Roman Fort. There are numerous places to park around the area but we would suggest parking at waypoint:N 55 26.100W 002 38.395which is near to West Leas. There is a path up through the wood which would be best if taking dogs, but for the more adventurous you can head through the fields.Inevitably you have to make your way almost to the summit! From the top there are marvellous views of Hawick, Denholm and surrounding areas, but beware there are sharp drops on the Denholm side of the summit. Proper walking boots are a must. The walk is approximately 2.5 - 3 miles and will take roughly 1-1.5 hours up and down. The cache is placed near to Pedens Altar. Beware of uneven surface in the immediate area of the cache as Ruberslaw is an extinct volcano.Smallish tupperware box with selection of goodies:Fragrance granulesYoyoRocket balloonsHighlighterCandlePuzzleScrewdriver setHappy hunting! The Wasp
