As you go to retrieve this cache it will be like passing back in
time.
To get to it you will have to leave the paved highway and safety
of your vehicle. I have never seen a gator in this area. But then
again, I have never been here prior to placing the cache. They say
"If there is water, there are gators". I have heard that a gator
can only run a short distance. And if chased, you should run
towards it and jump over it. I have no idea if this is true but it
wouldn't hurt to try it as a last resort. After you retrieve the
cache and are heading out, if you hear any strange noises behind
you, DON'T TAKE TIME TO LOOK BACK, JUST RUN to your vehicle.
Keep your car key close at hand. You might even want to tie the key
onto your wrist before trying for this cache, so there is no chance
of losing it on the way out. DON'T, and I can't stress this
enough, DON'T run towards the water. For your peace of mind
it is always a good idea to bring some less athletic friend with
you while caching. They say that predators go for the slower prey.
Slipping some raw hamburger in their pocket would help too.
4/22/5 I have recently had a chance to talk with the experts at
UF and they say that about every 5th time someone invades a gators
home territory that they need to be extra careful. Just thought I'd
pass this information to those that cache as if there is nothing to
worry about. Small gators are nothing to worry over. I personally
haven't seen a gator over 12 feet here, yet. But then again, I
wasn't #5 in this area either.
6/6/5. Cache alive and well.
9/2/8. Cache replace at new location.
