Long Distance Call Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Woof!: It is with great regret that I have to archive this listing. Jamie and were both very proud of our caches and had a great time setting them up. Unfortunately, the maintenance proved to be more than we expected. Who would think pay phones got so much action? Thanks to all those who played along and I apologize to anyone who was disrupted by the long period of down time.

Geocache Description:

THE CACHE IS NOT LOCATED AT THE POSTED COORDINATES. TO FIND THE CACHE YOU MUST MAKE A LONG DISTANCE CALL.

The actual cache is located somewhere in San Francisco, but the coordinates have been hidden on a pay phone in Tennessee. To get the coordinates, you must successfully reach someone on the other end and get them to read the coordinates off of a sticker placed on the phone. Here is some information that should help you:

Update 3/28/06: Once again, a new sticker has been placed on a new phone in Memphis. The new location is inside of a popular Memphis cafe and should have a good number of patrons around during operating hours. My apologies to anybody who had spent time unsuccessfully calling the old phone. Hopefully this one will work out better than the previous two.

  • Phone number: (901) 276-9293
  • The sticker is .75" x 1.5", and is located on the front of the phone, to the right of the receiver. The numbers are printed in bold red ink with a red box around them.
  • The format of the coordinate digits on the sticker is simply:
#######
########
  • The phone will ring 6 or 7 times before you will get a fax-like tone, and need to call again.
  • The phone booth is located inside a cool Memphis cafe so you can expect lots of pedestrian traffic during the cafe's operating hours. (Mon-Sat 7am-7pm, Sun 7am-6pm)

The rest is up to you and the person who answers the phone. Once you get the coordinates, you will have everything you need to find the cache. It is a small ammo box placed somewhere I drive by often, as do many other people.

This cache is one of two hidden by Jamie Z and me. You can see his version here.

    Good luck!
