Geocache Description:

This is an offset cache dedicated to the explorers of the Ohio River. It's an easy walk, all on paved surfaces, but you will have to figure out a couple of clues to find the cache. Note: It is NOT in any of the plastic garbage bags that you might see in the area.

Explorers

This is an offset cache dedicated the explorers of the Ohio River.

The cache is located N 38 1A.B0C W 085 DE.F62

1. At your starting point you will find some information about “The Beautiful River”. Panel #2 tells that the Ohio River drops how many feet along it’s course. Feet less 420 = A

2. About 120 feet to the east, you will find a very interesting fellow named York who accompanied Lewis and Clark in their famous expedition. Besides Lewis, Clark, and York, how many “young men from Kentucky” also went on the expedition? Men less 4 = B

3. About 100 feet to the north, you will learn a little about Ashland, Ky. What year was the first iron furnace founded in Ashland? Year less 1812 = C

4. Now, about 125 feet to the west, you will see a large man pointing to the river. He will tell you about the Louisville and Portland canal. What year did he propose the canal? Year less 1800 = D

5. You’re getting close now. One more stop and you will have everything you need to find the cache! Go about 225' south and then about 300' west. Look toward the river and find the “Louisville’s Pioneer Origin” plaque. What year was the new channel dug? Subtract 1800 from the year = EF

6. You should now have everything you need to go get the cache! It’s not far now!
The cache is at N 38 1A.B0C W 085 DE.F62. Admire the beginnings of the new Muhammad Ali Center while you’re there. Note: The cache is NOT in any of the plastic garbage bags that you might see in the area.

Among other things, I’m starting this cache off with a little cash! So, to the first lucky person who finds it, go have lunch on me! There are over 40 other items to discover including a genuine cultured pearl, a 1943 good luck charm, a 1985 Pegasus Pin, a miniature 1964 Kentucky license plate, a game ticket from the old Coney Island in Cincinnati, a plaster cast of my nieces little finger, Louisville and Kentucky pins, and much more. PLUS the new “Evil Kneivel” travel bug begins his travels in the cache. Evil’s goal is to visit all 50 of our United States, have his picture taken (and posted) in interesting places along the way, and return to his home here in Louisville. Happy Hunting!
