A Day at the Beach Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Mac and LaLa: We agree it’s time to put this one to rest! Sorry for everyone that tried finding this since the HUGE beech tree fell on this one. We visited the site a few weeks ago and confirmed the ammo can is entombed beneath the base of the fallen tree. At the time I couldn’t figure out how to archive a cache through the app, so thanks for the reminder to do so.

Be well everyone, cache on!

Geocache Description:

Located in Purse Beach State Park.

****** MARYLAND STATE PARK APPROVED ******

Purse State Park is located along the Potomac River on Wades Bay. Purse is a wooded undeveloped area that is used for hunting, bird watching, fishing and fossil hunting. Parking is located off of Maryland Route 224 across from a .25 mile trail leading to the waterfront.

This cache is in Purse Beach State Park in southwest Charles County. The scenery along the way is almost as good as finding the cache itself. Look for Bald Eagles, Deer, Turkey and Blue Herons on your way to this cache. After you find the cache take some time to walk along the beach and try your eye at spotting sharks teeth among the stones. Practice with the picture below and hone your skills. If any one is lucky enough to find one send a picture along to display your natural SWAG!!

Tip: Come at low tide for better fossil hunting opportunities, at high tide very little beach is available.

The park closes at dusk, so no night caching on this one, but if you time it right sunsets are beautiful from the cache site. The park is also used for hunting so please consult the DNR's Wildlife website (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/huntersguide/index.asp) for hunting seasons.

Parking is available in the dirt lot along the east side of Maryland Route 224.

For more information on Purse Beach, see the park's website (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/southern/purse.html).
