Located in the Perugia province, Gubbio is, among other small towns
and villages in Umbria, a wonderful place whose historical part
(that is actually the downtown) takes you back in the medioeval
age. You will walk around using very small roads, surrounded by
palaces that still maintain their ancient look.
From the nice "Piazza Grande" you will be able to enjoy a nice view
of the surroundings.
Just outside the town you will find the ruins of an ancient roman
amphitheatre, in very good conditions.
On May 15th there is the traditional "Corsa dei ceri", an
historical race (it has more than 800 years) where three huge and
heavy "ceri", are taken from "Piazza Grande" to the "S.Ubaldo"
sanctuary, through steeps road. An incredible and fascinating
event.
Another important event in Gubbio is the "Palio della Balestra" (a
'balestra' is a crossbow), that is held on the last sunday of
May.
To reach the cache you first need to get to the "Duomo". It is
worth a visit and that is why we didn't post the coordinates of the
cache, but we made this a multistage and the calculations that are
required for getting to the final location are very easy.
Once you get to the "Duomo", just get in. You must go on the
wall that is located to the left of the main entrance. On that
wall, you will see a tomb inside. Since there are many tombs on the
wall, to identify the right one, simply check the one whose part is
covered by the entrance. There is a plaque near that tomb with the
name of the Bishop that is buried there. The plaque says something
like this:

Using the numbers identified by the letters A, B, C and D, simply
do this calculation:

The result of this easy calculation will give you the coordinates
of the cache, just few minutes away from there.
The cache is a yellow soap box, whose starting content is a
small wooden clip, 2 incense cones and a small toy car. Obviously
you will find the logbook and a small pencil. We left a pensil
sharpener inside, please do not remove that.
