Golden Pass Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

AMFM_RadioCachers: We tried to figure out a good hide but to be honest, the area had construction. There is no new landscaping and no barrier for part of the path, to protect anyone from anything flying from the interstate.

We’ve decided to archive. Sorry we kept y’all waiting. Maybe when they landscape and put up a barrier, it would work better.

Geocache Description:

Golden Pass: easy walk from road, easy sites to find. Good BEGINNER exercize in locating multi-cache sites. NOTE: This cache is also a night cache, using a flashlight to follow reflectors. NOTE2: You may not be able to find cache #2 if snow is on the ground. NOTE3: you will be walking through rough weeds, it would be a good idea to wear long pants and shoes.

The GPS coordinates will take you to a Little-known historical marker which was hidden in weeds for years. Then the neighborhood decided to create a "Park in a day", and my son helped to build this mini-park. Last year, the marker was moved from its weed-covered location to the corner against the sidewalk. Read the historical marker about the "Golden Pass" toll road. Take the number for a pack animal, add 37, then add the total to the last 3 digits of the north coordinate, to make a new north coordinate. Take the number for a pack animal and divide it by 5, then add that to the last 3 digits of the west coordinate. You now have the lat/long for the first cache container, which is a foreign coin exchange. It will also contain a note that has the coordinates for the final cache. * If it is after dark and you have a flashlight with a strong spot, you can find both cache locations by following a reflector trail: stand in front of the monument, where you can read the "GOLDEN PASS" plaque, then flash your light left and right, up and down, looking for a reflector. All reflectors in this course are head level or higher. The first reflector is a two inch cross placed in an unusual location. The next reflector is square, a long distance away up in a tree. Go to within 5 feet of that reflector, and flash around looking for the next reflector. Follow the trail of reflectors. Remember to stand within 5 feet of each reflector to be at the right angle to see the next reflector. When you see two reflectors in the same place, you will be very close to cache container #1. This container is a foreign coin exchange. It also contains the coordinates of container #2. Flash around again, and follow the reflector trail. Each time, you need to be within 5 feet of the reflector, to be at the right angle to see the next reflector. When you find three reflectors at the same place, you are within 10 feet of the final cache. Hints are the same for daytime and dark. In your online log, tell me if you used the reflectors (just curious?). There is a nearby school, across the small public park. The principal of the school has asked us, as a courtesy, to remain east and north of the hill and trees when there are children playing. Actually, that is a good idea anyway, to remain out of sight of the "little muggles".
