This cache requires a canoe, kayak or other small boat (or perhaps a swimmer... eww muddy). The closest place to put a small boat in is at the MOHAI -- Museum of History and Industry -- near the Montlake Bridge.
The Marsh Island system of islands, bogs and canals is a local treasure - home to otter, beaver, turtles, frogs, heron, and an impressive array of ducks and geese. It's also a great place to canoe or kayak since the backwaters are protected from wind, waves, and the big boat traffic going through Montlake cut. If you don't have a boat, you can rent one just on the other side of the cut at the University of Washington marina (although I hear it that service is seasonal). In the spring, pls steer clear of birds which nest all along the shore in this area. The cache itself is an ammo box. The army corps of engineers manages water level for the lake - if you see that this cache is getting wet please report it! Lately the water level has been quite low, so no problems so far...
